As a former NCAA Division I athlete, Aalok knows it takes the right combination of talent and hard work to be successful in and out of the courtroom.
Aalok is frequently involved in bet-the-company litigation and has significant experience in business litigation, construction litigation and products liability litigation. In addition, sports businesses and technology companies trust Aalok to counsel them in matters relating to fan engagement, esports, data analytics, sports gambling and AR/VR.
Aalok understands the risks—and rewards— of being in the sports, media and entertainment industries. Prior to becoming an attorney, Aalok worked as a certified public accountant. He frequently assisted businesses in the areas of troubled debt restructuring, recognition of built-in-gains/losses, and footnote disclosure related to uncertain tax positions. Because of his financial experience, Aalok is able to effectively counsel his clients on maximizing revenue, and reducing litigation exposure.
Aalok has assisted clients in all phases of litigation, including significant motion practice before state and federal courts. He has extensive experience managing protracted litigation in various industries including construction, finance, healthcare, automotive, retail and manufacturing.
- He served as the lead lawyer in a bench trial before the U.S. Federal Tax Court in a matter regarding the sufficiency of business tax deductions, Streifel v. Commissioner.
- Aalok has argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
Aalok is viewed as a leader in the emerging sports and entertainment arena. Aalok serves as a board member for the Minnesota Twins Community Fund, and the ABA Forum on Sports. In addition, he serves as an outreach captain for the Sports Lawyers Association. Aalok is a frequent speaker on matters relating to esports, sports betting, and smart venue technology.
