Stinson LLP and Partner Kurt James have been recognized in the 2026 edition of IAM Patent 1000: The World's Leading Patent Professionals, a guide identifying leading patent firms and practitioners across key jurisdictions worldwide. The firm was again ranked "Bronze" for its patent services in the United States: Missouri jurisdiction, reflecting continued recognition in IAM's annual global research.

Stinson's Missouri patent practice brings together a substantial bench of attorneys focused on protecting and maximizing the value of clients' intellectual property assets across a wide range of industries and technologies. The group includes approximately 18 patent attorneys who support clients through all stages of the patent lifecycle.

In its assessment of Stinson, IAM highlights the firm's breadth of intellectual property capabilities, noting that it "offers all manner of IP services and, on the patent side, supports innovators in a rainbow range of technology fields and industry sectors." The publication further emphasizes the strength of the firm's prosecution practice, stating that its registered patent attorneys "acquit themselves with distinction in prosecuting applications to grant at the USPTO and before foreign patent offices, displaying finely honed writing skills that put them in demand for original drafting." IAM also points to the depth of litigation talent within the firm, noting that "high-calibre trial lawyers" are available to step in when disputes arise.

James is recognized as a "Recommended Individual" for patent prosecution in the United States: Missouri jurisdiction. IAM describes him as "a highly effective senior contact…especially for those seeking commercially attuned strategic advice." With a background in mechanical engineering, his practice focuses on the acquisition, licensing, and enforcement of patents and trademarks in the United States and internationally.

IAM's rankings are based on a multi-month research process that includes interviews with patent professionals and in-house counsel, client feedback, and independent analysis of submissions. The guide evaluates firms and individuals based on technical capability, market reputation, and strength of client service across prosecution, litigation and transactional matters.
