Attorney and University of Minnesota Law School alum Aalok Sharma spoke recently with their alumni publication, Minnesota Law, on getting his start in law and developing a highly specialized sports law practice.

Aalok started his career as a certified public accountant in Washington, DC. There, he was working on an audit for a publicly traded company during the 2008 financial crisis. "I noticed that the lawyers were coming in and everybody was turning to them. I knew then that I wanted to be rushing into the room rather than rushing away," he said.

Now an attorney, Aalok centers his practice on matters relating to the future of sports, including esports, data analytics, sports technology, fan engagement, and sports wagering and integrity. He also serves on the board of the Minnesota Twins Community Fund, is Vice Chair of Sports Section of the ABA Forum on Entertainment and Sports, and is a captain for the Sports Lawyers Association. Aalok was named a ‘Leading Entertainment and Sports Lawyer of the Next Generation’ by the ABA in 2019.
