Scott’s nationwide litigation practice focuses on complex intellectual property matters in state, federal and appellate courts.

Overview

Scott has successfully tried multi-million dollar patent and trademark cases for Fortune 500 companies, defending companies against patent infringement allegations brought by license acquisition companies (patent trolls), and obtaining attorneys’ fees for his clients.

A registered U.S. patent attorney, Scott also helps clients manage their patent portfolios during prosecution and provides strategic advice pertaining to portfolio development and enforcement, and represents companies before the USPTO. Scott counsels entrepreneurs and navigates commercial contract disputes in litigious situations, including issues concerning infringements of patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade dress. Helping to protect businesses from unfair competition, Scott also advises clients about licensing agreements, trademark dilution and trade secret misappropriation.

Scott has won significant multi-million dollar jury verdicts and other trial victories against allegations of patent, service mark and trademark infringement and trade secret misappropriation in litigation, service mark infringement and breach of contract cases.

In one such high-profile case, he obtained compensatory damages of $5.4 million, up from the original award of $2.7 million, in a patent infringement case for Cobalt Boats.

Recognizing his litigation skills, Washington University School of Law invited him to serve as an adjunct professor. In this role, Scott teaches trademark litigation to upper level law students and LLMs. Prior to his legal career, Scott obtained his M.B.A. and M.H.A. and taught finance to undergraduate students at the University of Missouri.
