Regulatory Attorney Theo Thompson Featured in Minnesota Lawyer's 'Breaking the Ice' Series

Stinson LLP attorney Theodore Thompson was featured in Minnesota Lawyer's "Breaking the Ice" series discussing his move to Stinson in 2025 and the impact of his addition on the firm's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation practice.

Thompson began his legal career working for the world's largest medical device company, where he spent nearly a decade navigating FDA regulatory requirements. He later practiced as a solo attorney and at a small firm before joining Stinson, bringing extensive experience in helping clients manage complex regulatory challenges. He told Minnesota Lawyer that joining Stinson "enabled me to plug myself into a bigger platform and help Stinson grow its practice in this area while growing my own practice."

At Stinson, Thompson focuses on assisting clients with FDA, HIPAA, and False Claims Act matters, including the premarket approval process for drugs and medical devices. He notes, "Each day brings challenges, in terms of understanding the product that the physician is developing and helping them navigate a path to market." In his practice he emphasizes translating complex regulatory issues into practical, commercially viable solutions, enabling clients to advance innovative products while maintaining compliance.

Reflecting on his path to FDA law, Thompson explained, "I didn't know when I started law school that it would be in FDA law, but I knew it would lead to bigger and better and more interesting things. It's far more satisfying to be involved in a career where you’re making a difference and helping people in a meaningful way."
