D'Alessandro Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award at D.C. Legal Awards

Stinson LLP Senior Counsel Dave D'Alessandro received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 D.C. Legal Awards, presented by The National Law Journal and Law.com. The award honors his five decades devoted to advancing the practice of energy law.

Throughout his career, D'Alessandro has represented clients in the electric, natural gas and petroleum industries in regulatory proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). His deep understanding of the regulatory landscape and his ability to identify practical solutions to complex energy issues have helped establish him as one of the most respected attorneys in the field.

D'Alessandro has helped shape energy regulation on some of the industry's most consequential challenges involving consumer protection, pipeline regulation and public power participation in regional transmission organizations. He also has witnessed many shifts in the industry during his career. One of those shifts is the current dramatic increase in demand for electricity driven by artificial intelligence and data centers, which has placed energy issues at the forefront of public debate.

"I am confident that our energy industry will respond to such demands by expanding and building the necessary infrastructure," D'Alessandro said. "FERC and state regulators will ensure that the costs are allocated to the customers creating the increased demands."

Reducing energy costs for consumers has been a constant throughout D'Alessandro's career when it began at FERC in the Office of General Counsel, where he developed a foundation in the federal regulations governing the energy industry. After four years at FERC, he entered private practice.

A year after D'Alessandro joined Stinson in 1990, he became managing partner of the firm's Washington, D.C. office and during his tenure was instrumental in expanding the office from three attorneys to 30. He also has been active with the Energy Bar Association, serving as president in 1999, when he initiated the formation of its New York and Midwest regional chapters. He is also the founder of the Annual Midwest Energy Bar Association Conference.
