Jeff focuses on complex commercial finance matters, including both commercial lending and equipment leasing and finance transactions. He has significant experience in the agribusiness and energy industries.

He represents commercial banks, cooperative lenders, community banks, leasing companies, borrowers and lessees in a wide range of finance transactions, including the following:

Jeff's commercial lending experience spans the full range of agribusiness commodities, including dairy, grain, livestock and other protein, and biofuels. He regularly counsels clients on the Food Security Act, the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act, the Packers and Stockyard Act, state-level agriculture-related statutory liens and corporate farming issues, and other issues unique to agribusiness finance transactions.

He has advised on hundreds of equipment leasing and finance transactions involving assets as varied as solar power projects, grain handling and storage facilities, processing and manufacturing equipment and facilities, livestock facilities, railcars, warehouses and cold storage facilities. He also has handled purchases and sales of lease portfolios, servicing and remarketing agreements and master participation agreements.

Jeff leads the firm's Agribusiness Finance team and co-chairs the firm's Agribusiness Industry Group.

Before joining the firm, Jeff was senior counsel at a Farm Credit System bank, where he managed all aspects of a multi-billion dollar agribusiness loan portfolio. Jeff began his career at international law firms in New York City and Houston where he led cross-border and domestic financings, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures and project development transactions in the energy and infrastructure sectors. His clients included large financial institutions, alternative asset managers, state-owned and government-sponsored enterprises and multinational corporations.

  • Represented a real estate investment trust borrower in multiple credit facilities.
  • Represented the lender in $30 million credit facility to a farm supply and marketing cooperative.
  • Represented a cooperative bank in $50 million asset-based revolving line of credit to an owner and operator of feedlots.
  • Represented a cooperative bank in $18 million secured financing to an ethanol producer.
  • Represented a cooperative bank in $9 million secured financing to a dairy.
  • Represented a cooperative bank in $80 million asset-based revolving loan and $40 million term loan to an owner and operator of feedlots.
