05.06.2025

Stinson LLP is pleased to welcome back Brett Shanks to its Kansas City office. Shanks, who was an associate from 2015 to 2020, rejoins as of counsel in the firm’s Energy, Environmental, Mining and Transportation practice division.

In addition to his time at Stinson, Shanks most recently served as a senior trial attorney with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, where he handled fraud and compliance investigations, enforcement matters and litigation involving financial markets. His work with the commission informs his work with clients facing regulatory challenges, government investigations or high-stakes disputes.

“We are pleased to have Brett return to the firm,” said Stinson’s Energy, Environmental, Mining and Transportation Practice Division Chair Andy Davis. “His background in regulatory enforcement defense and experience in environmental litigation will make him a valuable addition to our team. We’re excited to have him on board again.”

His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation as well as environmental litigation including regulatory enforcement, contamination claims and compliance matters. His courtroom experience includes representing clients in multimillion-dollar antitrust litigation, class action environmental claims and complex product liability cases.

Shanks holds a J.D. from Washburn University School of Law, a M.S. from Avila University and a B.S. from Park University.
