Stephanie Scheck, Partner and Office Managing Partner of Stinson LLP's Wichita office, is profiled by the Wichita Business Journal which highlights her leadership journey, commitment to intentional mentorship and impact within the firm and the Wichita business community.

In the article, "Always looking forward, but mindful of the past," Scheck reflects candidly on the early setbacks that shaped her career. As a young lawyer applying for positions across Wichita, she accumulated a stack of rejection letters that she still keeps in her office today. The letters she says, serve as both motivation and perspective.

"You will at some point be 30 years away and look back and say, 'Thank goodness that happened,' because otherwise I would not be where I’m at," Scheck shared. "But when you're in the moment, it's kind of hard to see it."

That perspective has informed her approach to mentoring the next generation of lawyers. A first-generation college student who largely paved her own path in the profession, Scheck said her experience drives her to be intentional about creating opportunities for others. "Maybe because I didn't have as many mentoring opportunities, I'm wanting to give back more so that other people do have that."

Scheck serves on Stinson's executive team and board of directors, and co-chairs the Labor, Employment and Employee Benefits Practice Division. In addition to her leadership responsibilities, she maintains a national employment practice focused on litigation and counseling, including advising federal government contractors on compliance matters, conducting high-stakes internal investigations and guiding employers through complex workplace challenges.

The feature also explores Scheck's evolution as a leader. Known for her competitive edge and direct communication style, she has learned over time to balance decisiveness with empathy. "Each person has a different definition of their success and what motivates them," Scheck said. "Really connecting with them to understand that" has become central to how she leads and mentors others.
