Fickel Examines Risks of California’s Catastrophic Weather on Multifamily Housing
Stinson LLP Partner Ashley Fickel authored an article for Multi-Housing News titled “Safeguarding Multifamily Amid California’s Catastrophic Weather” where he examines the increasing threat of natural disasters in California and offers practical guidance for owners and operators of multifamily housing.
Fickel explores the legal, financial and operational risks associated with wildfires and other climate-related disasters. He discusses the growing challenge in securing adequate insurance coverage, new regulatory updates to California’s FAIR plan, and the complex obligations landlords face under tenant protection and habitability laws after a disaster. Fickel also outlines recent permitting reforms and the importance of building code compliance, especially in wildfire-prone areas.
Fickel emphasizes that legal counsel should be involved early in future development process to ensure properties are built or redeveloped with resilience in mind, and positioned to meet evolving regulatory, insurance and liability standards.
Fickel focuses his practice on business litigation, real estate litigation, construction litigation, consumer class action defense, and data and private cybersecurity.
