Partner Amy Conway provided insight on what government contractors can expect in regards to vaccine mandates in a recent interview for "Federal Drive with Tom Temin" from Federal News Network.

Conway discussed the uncertainty that government contractors face as they await guidance on the scope and substance of recent executive actions. She expects The Safer Federal Workforce Task Force, led by the White House COVID-19 Response Team, to issue contractor guidance by September 24, 2021.

"I think we can anticipate that there will be a vaccination mandate. What percentage of contractor employees, what types of employees might be covered remains to be seen. That will be interesting in the definitions, because the executive order itself is limited in many ways in what types of contractors this might apply to," Conway said.

Conway encouraged contractors to participate commenting on any proposals for which there is a notice and comment opportunity, so their voices can be heard before final rulemaking. She also advised that contractors be proactive in collecting their workers' vaccination statuses.

"Exactly what you’re going to do with it is a little up in the air still. But I would certainly recommend that you start gathering that data so that you will be able to use it properly, once we know what the final rule will be," Conway said.

Conway is a labor and employment in the firm's Minneapolis office. Clients turn to her for employment best practices and to manage risks inherent to navigating all facets of the employment relationship. She advises businesses of all sizes on employment law issues.
