Mike helps real estate developers, owners, investors and lenders buy, sell, develop, finance and lease all types of commercial and residential real estate projects.


Mike advises clients on commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions, project development, joint venture financing, formation of real estate investment funds, property management and leasing. He also helps corporate clients organize and structure business entities.

Mike also represents a number of large commercial real estate lenders. He has closed acquisition and construction loans secured by all real property product types. His most recent deals have focused on spec industrial projects and senior living facilities.

Mike previously served as the executive vice president and general counsel to a Twin Cities-based real estate development company where he helped form and manage a real estate investment fund focused on turning around distressed properties coming out of the 2008-2010 "Great Recession".

Mike has a particular interest in financing projects with incentives such as tax credits and tax increment financing. He has strong experience identifying and securing state and federal historic rehabilitation tax credits to preserve and redevelop historic properties. He has also represented developers and lenders who utilize New Markets Tax Credits and renewable energy Investment Tax Credits.

Numerous transactions representing landlords of leases with national retailers, large office, and medical office clinic tenants, as well as in lease modifications during COVID-19 pandemic.

Represents both property owners and restaurateurs in restaurant leasing and finance transactions.

Represents national loan placement agent in documenting and closing participated loans secured by multiple product types, including senior living facilities, hotel projects, casino gaming equipment, and others.

Represents emerging companies in the recreational cannabis marketplace, including CBD product manufacturers and distributors.
