Mike helps real estate developers, investors and lenders buy, sell, develop, finance and lease all types of commercial and residential real estate projects.

Overview

Mike advises clients on commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions, project development, joint venture financing, formation of real estate investment funds, property management and leasing. He also helps corporate clients organize and structure business entities.

Mike also represents a number of large commercial real estate lenders.  He has closed acquisition and construction loans secured by all real property product types.  His most recent deals have focused on affordable housing tax credit financed projects and senior living facilities. 

Mike previously served as the executive vice president and general counsel to a Twin Cities-based real estate development company where he helped form and manage a real estate investment fund focused on turning around distressed properties.

Mike has a particular interest in financing projects with incentives such as tax credits and tax increment financing.  He has strong experience identifying and securing state and federal historic rehabilitation tax credits to preserve and redevelop historic properties.  He has been counsel to developers and lenders who utilize New Markets Tax Credits and renewable energy Investment Tax Credits.

Lender's counsel for real estate loans in multiple states for national and regional banks, as well as community bank lenders.

Developer's counsel for multiple Minnesota community solar garden projects.

Numerous transactions representing landlords of leases with national retailers, large office, and medical office clinic tenants.

Represents both landlords and tenants in leases for new restaurants.

Represents developers of Minnesota common interest communities (CICs) with formation and documentation of CIC Declarations and association documents.

Handles formation and management of real estate investment and development funds.
