Overview

She leverages her advanced degree in sociology and prior experience with the Illinois Legislature, where she worked with administrative agencies and their rulemaking process, while also serving as the assistant director of the with the Institute for Legal and Policy Studies (ILAPS) in Illinois to advance her clients' business objectives.

Experience

Joy has a broad base of experience in defending product liability claims, including claims against equipment manufacturers and serving as national counsel for a chemical distributor facing multiple suits in numerous state and federal courts nationwide.

Drawing on her experience in real estate law, she obtained summary judgment on behalf of homeowners' association in a claim related to restrictive covenants.

She assisted in defeating class certification in a putative class action brought by minority members of multiple limited liability companies related to valuation of membership interests. 

She successfully obtained the dismissal of a class action lawsuit brought under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in the Southern District of Illinois.

She represented the FDIC as receiver for a failed bank in suit by bank creditors. 

An accomplished litigator, she assisted in the defense of major pharmaceutical companies against failure-to-warn claims in numerous jurisdictions.

Strategic and detail-oriented, Joy coordinated the collection, review and production of a client's response to an information request served by the Environmental Protection Agency under Section 308 of the Clean Water Act.

Joy assisted in the defense of an energy producer in New Source Review action brought by the EPA.

A trusted resource for her clients, she has lead litigation teams in a variety of large scale e-discovery productions.
