As a business litigator, John represents clients in the areas of federal contracts, construction, emerging technology, municipal, employment, appellate and administrative law.
John’s practice includes working with a broad set of entities including S&P 100 corporations, construction companies, local and state governments, tech companies, Alaska Native Corporations, oil and gas companies and ANCSA Regional Corporations. He consults with companies and government entities on federal and state compliance, contracts, internal investigation, privacy, shareholder and board issues, regulatory advocacy, and other issues directly and to prevent future litigation. He also represents clients in state and federal courts, assisting with motions, trial and appellate briefs, claims, answers, purchase and sales agreements, settlement agreements and municipal ordinances.
Prior to joining the firm, John served as a clerk for the Honorable John Sedwick of the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska and the Honorable Morgan Christen for the Alaska Supreme Court, now on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. John also served as a Special Assistant to two Alaska Attorneys General.
Litigated an Alaska constitutional funding issue on behalf of a municipality to the Alaska Supreme Court.
Advocated for an S&P 100 multinational oil services company to obtain a favorable regulatory framework to protect proprietary business information.
Negotiated a favorable land exchange agreement between a city and an Alaska Native Corporation. The agreement preserved a multimillion dollar infrastructure project to the benefit of both parties.
Obtained a favorable bid protest outcome for a municipality on a million dollar contract.
Settled a multimillion dollar state contract dispute on behalf of a Fortune 500 company.
Obtained a favorable settlement of a million dollar construction defect claim on behalf of an Alaska borough.
Secured post-bankruptcy overriding royalty interests for an oil and gas exploration company.
Obtained land transfers on behalf of Alaska Native Corporation with two private parties to ensure completion of an infrastructure development plan.
Assisted a technology company in retaining a federal contract after a non-compliance assessment under the Trade Agreements Act.
Obtained a favorable outcome on a non-compliance claim before the California Public Utility Commission on behalf of a multinational technology company.
Assisted an ANCSA Regional Corporation in obtaining a favorable outcome in a board member dispute.
Assisted a technology company in ensuring compliance with Trade Agreements Act and Buy American Act in structuring a compensation agreement.
Secured a favorable outcome for a construction company in a changed site condition claim with a state agency.
Advised a Fortune 500 company regarding compliance with the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.
