Butch provides practical legal counsel on buying, selling, leasing, financing and developing all types of real estate. Over the years, his practice has evolved to serve as trusted advisor to large companies and entrepreneurs throughout the business life cycle, with an emphasis on health care.

A business and real estate attorney, Butch counsels clients on all types of commercial and real estate transactions, as well as ancillary issues such as governmental approvals, real estate tax and incentive issues, financing and similar matters. He also advises new businesses at all stages on issues ranging from formation and structuring, to contracts, employment law and executive compensation structures, to eventual sale, including succession planning for transition of business to the owner’s children or employees. He provides "right-sized" legal counsel for start-ups and well-established entities with significant assets to protect. Butch has strong transactional experience in the rapidly evolving health care industry, helping providers, especially optometry and ophthalmology practices grow their practices to better serve their patients and their communities.


Butch led a legal team assisting in a multi-state, multi-year, private equity-backed optometry and ophthalmology practice acquisition program.

He led a legal team representing a regional shopping center developer in connection with leasing, financing, and Community Improvement District bond offering.

Butch represented a national logistics and warehousing company in real estate disposition and leasing.

He served as local counsel to many national real estate lenders.

Before law school, Butch worked for St. Louis County's economic development agency where he led flood recovery efforts for businesses in the South St. Louis County area, focused on redevelopment and helping business owners obtain Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster recovery loans.
