Andrea's IP legal guidance for clients is focused on highly practical solutions that are informed through knowledge of how IP fits into the client's business.
Andrea’s diverse technical experience, with a focus on the chemical and bioscience spheres, allows her to navigate the complex and rapidly evolving fields of clean energy, life science and animal health. A registered patent attorney, Andrea’s practice covers all aspects of intellectual property law, with notable experience in licensing, infringement counseling and patent prosecution.
Andrea negotiates and prepares all manner of IP agreements; advises clients about FDA and other regulatory issues, including Paragraph IV certifications; and guides, develops and implements strategies for protecting international trademark portfolios and avoiding infringement. Andrea also counsels companies on the intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions and strategic investments, including transactions with international components.
In the patent arena, Andrea counsels clients on strategic intellectual property protection options and management of infringement risks. This includes preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications in biochemical, chemical and mechanical technologies. She conducts freedom to operate and patent infringement analyses and patentability assessments.
Andrea’s patent experience encompasses biochemical, chemical and mechanical technologies, including veterinary products, medical devices and implants, wound care, vaccines, pro/postbiotics, food additives, gene editing, pharmaceuticals, drug conjugates, drug delivery, oil recovery, nanoparticles, micelles, chemical synthesis and biosynthesis, biofuels, and bioenergy.
Her strengths in complex technology agreements include joint development and commercialization, research collaborations, technology transfer, independent contractor, distribution and technology license agreements.
She has served as IP counsel for the licensee of a vaccine platform technology for the animal health field, the licensor of an animal feed additive, an early stage life sciences company's spin-out of its technology in the dermatology field, investors in chemical biosynthesis and biofuel technologies, and the seller of a veterinary reference lab.
Andrea prepared and negotiated intellectual property agreements ancillary to the acquisition of a research and development unit of a plant science company and the asset purchase of an animal genetics company.
She has managed IP diligence for animal health transactions, including for technologies relating to aquaculture, production animal monitoring, and animal vaccines.
