Tom Nelson Named An Attorney Of The Year By Minnesota Lawyer
Stinson Leonard Street LLP is pleased to announce that Tom Nelson has been selected as a 2015 Attorney of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer.
Nelson was selected in part for his leadership in the Hennepin County Bar Association. He served as an officer with the HCBA for the past five years and as president from 2014-2015. He also served for many years as Chair of the HCBA Bar Memorial Committee, and as inventor and Chair of the "Vintage Lawyers Group." Throughout, he has been an enthusiastic advocate for the association both within the legal profession and the greater Twin Cities community. He has worked to increase the value the HCBA offers to members and has been active in both the HCBA's Foundation and the Volunteers Lawyers Network. In one letter of nomination, one attorney described Nelson as someone who "embodies what we are looking for in attorneys in our profession."
Nelson is a partner in Stinson Leonard Street's Minneapolis office. His practice has been nationally recognized in commercial litigation, insurance law, banking and finance, construction and real estate for many years. In 2016 he was named "Lawyer of the Year" for insurance law in Minneapolis by Best Lawyers. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and was recently inducted into the Litigation Counsel of America.
Currently, Nelson serves on the Minnesota State Bar Association Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Council. He is chair of the American Swedish Institute board of trustees; and serves on the boards of the Givens Foundation for African American Literature and the Minnesota Landmark Center in St. Paul. In addition, Nelson was recently invited to serve on the board of the Global Rights for Women.
Each year, Minnesota Lawyer recognizes the best of the state's legal profession with the Attorney of the Year award. Honorees are selected based on their leadership in the profession, outstanding legal work and commitment to the judicial system in Minnesota. Nelson and the other Attorneys of the Year were recognized at an awards dinner Feb. 18, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Minneapolis.
