Tom Nelson Selected as Stinson's 2019 D&I Champion Award Winner
Stinson LLP is excited to announce that Partner Tom Nelson has been selected as the firm's 2019 Diversity and Inclusion Champion Award winner. This annual award was presented in Minneapolis on Wednesday as a part of Stinson's fifth annual Diversity Week activities.
Nelson has a long history of D&I service, including serving on the firm's Diversity Committee, and the diversity committees of the Minnesota Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, Hennepin County Bar Association and National Conference of Bar Presidents, and has served as an at-large member of the Minnesota State Bar Association Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Council. Additionally, Nelson was honored with Minnesota Lawyer magazine's 2018 Diversity & Inclusion Legacy Award.
"We are incredibly grateful for all that Tom has done to exemplify what it means to be a true champion of diversity and inclusion," said Mark Hinderks, Stinson's managing partner, who presented Nelson with the award.
Nelson's business litigation experience has included high profile supply contract disputes, construction claims, insurance, reinsurance and risk management, lease negotiations and class action litigation. He has defended products ranging from trucks to table saws, exploding electrical switch gear and natural gas pipelines. Nelson's corporate work has involved numerous transactions and transitions, as well as lender liability claims, bankruptcy proceedings and workout matters, and credit card fraud investigation.
The award builds upon Stinson's Diversity Week celebration, which is planned and organized by the firm's Diversity Committee. Events included a training led by Kori Carew, attorney and former director of strategic diversity initiatives at an AM Law 100 firm, a fundraiser for Lawyers Encouraging Academic Performance and the Council on Legal Education Opportunity, and interactive roundtable discussions about diversity and inclusion taking place in each office.
