Stinson Leonard Street Named 2015 Beacon of Justice Award Winner for Pro Bono Work
Minneapolis, Minn./ Kansas City, Mo. (June 23, 2015)— Stinson Leonard Street LLP has been selected to receive a 2015 Beacon of Justice Award from The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA.) The award honors law firms whose pro bono work has expanded opportunities for low income and vulnerable Americans. The firm is one of only 13 in the country that will be recognized tonight at the NLADA Exemplar Award Dinner in Washington, DC.
Award winners were chosen based on the depth and breadth of their pro bono work in the areas of health care, housing, and education, and for ways that their pro bono efforts have created models for others across the nation. The NLADA recognized the firm’s work on several legal projects, including the Deinard Legal Clinic in Minneapolis; the Marlborough Neighborhood Project in Kansas City; the St. Louis Arches Grant Program and the DC Bar Pro Bono Program.
Theresa Hughes is the pro bono director at Stinson Leonard Street. A pro bono committee made up of attorneys and partners administers the program and makes recommendations on how and where to engage firm resources. This is the second year in a row the firm has received a Beacon of Justice Award from NLADA.
“I am humbled by the efforts of our attorneys and staff who each year find the time to put their legal skills to use in ways that make a direct impact in the lives of so many people,” said Mark Hinderks, the firm’s co-managing partner. “Our commitment to pro bono work is firm-wide and one of the many things that makes this firm great. Working to ensure that everyone has equal access to the law is something we can all be proud of.”
NLADA is America’s oldest and largest nonprofit association devoted to excellence in the delivery of legal services to those who cannot afford counsel. A leader in the development of national standards for legal aid and indigent defense, NLADA also provides advocacy, training and technical assistance for equal justice advocates across the country.
Co-managing partner Mark Hinderks and pro bono committee co-chair Brad Yeretsky will accept the award for the firm. All the award winners will be recognized tonight at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC.
