Stinson Leonard Street Debuts Women's Initiative Networking Event at Missouri Botanical Gardens
ST. LOUIS (May 17, 2018)—Stinson Leonard Street's St. Louis office kicked off its Women's Initiative event series earlier this month with a networking reception at the Missouri Botanical Gardens.
The initiative was formed to bring women attorneys and business leaders together in an organized and consistent fashion outside of traditional after work happy hours. Future events will include informal networking gatherings, panel discussions, and volunteer opportunities. Some events will be kid friendly.
A group of nearly 50 women attended the first Women's Initiative event. The guests included women in real estate, banking, litigation, tax credits, intellectual property, employment, healthcare, and the non-profit sector. Guests mingled with the Stinson St. Louis attorneys and enjoyed private access to the Garden.
"There is a real desire to change the format of traditional women's networking events," said Natasha Das, a Stinson attorney and the organizer of the event. "We frequently hear that women have a hard time attending after work functions because of work and family schedules, and because of that, they want to choose their professional commitments wisely. We want to change the traditional approach with women's events and make them as unique, relaxed, and rewarding as possible. To accomplish that, we need to think beyond drinks at a loud and crowded bar, and provide an opportunity that is worthwhile for all involved."
The firm has plans to host an upcoming event this fall. Das encouraged anyone with suggestions about upcoming speakers, topics or venues to contact her.
"This will only work if people want to take time out of their schedules to attend. We understand that it can be a sacrifice for many women to attend professional development activities, so we want these events to be easy, informative and fun," Das said. “My goal is for this series to be fruitful – both professionally and personally — for everyone who attends.”
