Stinson Recognized as Housing Law Firm of the Year by Volunteer Lawyers Network
Stinson LLP was honored with the Volunteer Lawyers Network 2018 Housing Firm of the Year award at the 2019 Annual Housing Law Seminar on April 30. Attorneys and volunteers for VLN, David Axtell, Calvin Hoffman and Kevin Kitchen were there to accept the award.
Stinson was recognized for its longstanding commitment to pro bono work and the active role attorneys have taken in helping underserved individuals in Minnesota. Stinson maintains three monthly shifts with VLN's advice clinic, rotating eight attorneys through the program each year. In addition to providing housing advice to those who visit the clinic, Stinson attorneys are also active in eviction defense representation at the VLN eviction calendars twice a month.
As part of this work, attorneys have not only provided advice to aid tenants in maintaining stable housing and secure their rights, but have also taken on full-representation projects for tenants in Minnesota. More than 150 hours of attorney time were donated to VLN work in 2018 alone.
Stinson's pro bono program is driven by the firm's Pro Bono Committee and implemented by Pro Bono Director Theresa Hughes and Pro Bono Manager Katie Cronin. The firm's strategic plan expects all partners to contribute to the firm's pro bono legal work and community service. As signatory to the Pro Bono Institute's Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge©, Stinson has pledged to donate at least three percent of total billable hours to pro bono service each year.
