Stinson Ranks in American Lawyer's Pro Bono Annual Survey

Firm Compiles Pro Bono Accomplishments in Annual Report

The American Lawyer recently released its 2019 National Pro Bono Rankings of the nation's 200 highest-grossing firms. Stinson LLP is pleased to announce that the firm was ranked No. 58 for legal services donated in 2018.

Scores are assigned based on two factors: the average number of pro bono hours per lawyer in 2018 and the percentage of lawyers who performed more than 20 hours of pro bono work in 2018.

Last year, Stinson attorneys donated on average 51 hours to pro bono, with 55.2 percent of attorneys donating 20 or more hours to pro bono. The firm is a signatory to the Pro Bono Institute's Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge®, pledging to donate 3 percent of total billable hours to pro bono every year, a goal which it surpassed again in 2018 with a donation of nearly 3.75 percent, or 26,834 hours, to pro bono at a value of $10.3 million in legal services.

The firm's pro bono efforts in 2018 included work on the "Somali 92" class action lawsuit to prevent detainee deportation; protecting prisoner's rights in Missouri and Denver; providing legal assistance to veterans in Minnesota, Arizona, Missouri and Nebraska; and engaging in community economic development across our 13-office footprint. The firm's 2018 Pro Bono Annual Report includes these case highlights and the various ways Stinson supports its communities.

Stinson's pro bono program is driven by the firm's Pro Bono Committee and implemented by Pro Bono Director Theresa Hughes and Pro Bono Manager Katie Cronin. The firm's strategic plan expects all partners to contribute to the firm's pro bono legal work and community service. Last year, 100% of the firm's associates performed pro bono legal work.
