Eric Galatz, Keith Moheban Receive 2019 Pro Bono Award from the Ramsey County Bar Association
Stinson LLP is proud to announce that partners Eric Galatz and Keith Moheban are being recognized with the Ramsey County Bar Association's (RCBA) 2019 Pro Bono Award for their dedication to providing legal services to disadvantaged individuals or nonprofit organizations. Galatz and Moheban will accept the award at the RCBA's annual Bench & Bar Benefit on November 2 at the Saint Paul Hotel.
The award recognizes the attorneys' work on behalf of the Listening House based in St. Paul. The Listening House serves as a daytime drop-in center providing homeless and disadvantaged individuals with a safe place to stay out of the elements, as well as food, clothing, and access to counsel and social services.
The Listening House relocated from downtown St. Paul to a church in Swede Hollow. Shortly after the move, the city imposed conditions on the center, limiting the number of guests to 20 per day. With a large population in need of the Listening House's services, these zoning limitations would have essentially forced Listening House to close. Moheban and Galatz brought a legal challenge to the zoning limitations and ultimately reached a settlement with the City of St. Paul that allowed Listening House to continue its operations without the guest limitation.
Galatz advises private, nonprofit, and public owners and developers, contractors and design professionals in all aspects of real estate acquisition, ownership and development, with particular emphasis on entitlements and governmental assistance, brownfield redevelopment and construction contracts. In his more than 25 years of practice, Galatz has been involved with a wide range of projects, including Minnesota’s Target Field ballpark, the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium, multi-family, senior and student housing, hospitals and clinics, alternative energy production facilities, and gaming facilities.
Moheban's litigation practice includes intellectual property, estates and trusts, contract disputes, environmental law, professional negligence, construction-related disputes, banking litigation and regulatory matters. He has extensive courtroom experience, having successfully tried cases to verdict in both state and federal courts across the country, as well as litigating numerous arbitrations and administrative proceedings. In addition to providing experienced advocacy in court, Moheban utilizes that experience to counsel clients in negotiating contracts and taking other prudent actions to stay out of court.
