Colonel Steve Schemenauer Named Commander of Minnesota Army National Guard Brigade
Stinson Leonard Street partner Steve Schemenauer was recently named Brigade Commander of the 347th Regional Support Group of the Minnesota Army National Guard. He is one of six Brigade Commanders in the state and has nearly 1,000 soldiers under his command.
The 347th Regional Support Group's mission is to deploy and provide contingency and expeditionary base operations, with responsibilities for managing facilities, providing administrative and logistical support for troop services and ensuring the security of personnel and facilities on a base camp. The Brigade also provides command and control of assigned units during homeland security, homeland defense and other civil support missions within the U.S. to include managing the reception, staging, onward movement and integration of supporting forces.
Schemenauer has served in the U.S. Army for more than 26 years, commanding at all levels from platoon through battalion and now brigade. He is a former Director of Intelligence for the Minnesota National Guard and recently completed a U.S. Army War College national security fellowship, earning a certificate in International Security Studies from Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Schemenauer has served multiple combat tours, commanding an Infantry Company in Afghanistan from 2004-2005 and performing Intelligence in Iraq from 2009-2010 for the 34th Infantry Division ("Red Bulls").
Schemenauer is a litigator in the firm’s Minneapolis office where he represents businesses in complex commercial litigation and serves as the co-chair of the Firm's Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Autonomous Vehicles practice group. He has prosecuted claims and defended clients' interests in courtrooms across the country, dealing with a broad spectrum of litigated and appellate matters. He is also qualified under Minnesota Rule 114 as a mediator and arbitrator, and he has represented parties and served as a neutral in a wide variety of legal disputes. In addition to his military service and legal work, Schemenauer serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Board for the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans and on the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce Board.
