Adine Momoh Completes Historic Term as President of HCBA

Press Release
06.04.2019

Stinson LLP congratulates Partner Adine Momoh on her year-long term as president of the Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA), which began on July 1, 2018, and ends June 30, 2019. On May 30, Momoh presided over the organization's 100th Annual Meeting and participated in the ceremonial Passing of the Gavel to incoming president Jeffrey Baill of Yost & Baill during the meeting. On July 1, Momoh will complete her five-year leadership track with the organization, becoming its immediate-past president.

Momoh, the 100th president of the HCBA during its centennial, was the first black woman and the youngest attorney ever to serve as president.

"It has been my goal this year as president to remind us all of the HCBA's roots and to challenge people to stretch their imagination and to realize that sponsors and champions—the ones you may think of as advancing your career and providing you opportunities—do not only have to be individuals," Momoh said during the Annual Meeting. "The HCBA, as an organization, can be a champion. That is why I challenged all of us to commit to being a champion of someone else in our community."

The theme of Momoh's presidency was "Championing the Profession, Championing the Community," which, among other initiatives, included a focus on diverse attorneys, newer attorneys and attorneys with 7 to 15 years' experience.

During Momoh's term, the HCBA also prioritized mental health in the legal profession. In February, Momoh attended the Minnesota Supreme Court's Summit on Attorney Wellness and Wellbeing, which included a call to action to improve and promote attorney wellbeing and mental health.

"Adine was truly remarkable in this role. Her dedication to the profession paired with her tireless community service work has made this new challenge a success," said Mark Hinderks, managing partner of Stinson. "Her skill and drive are exceptional, and I can't wait to see what she is going to do next."

Momoh is a trial attorney representing clients in various aspects of litigation before state and federal courts across the country. She counsels on case development and strategy, discovery, motion practice, trial and appeal in matters involving creditors’ rights and bankruptcy, estates and trusts litigation, and securities and banking litigation.

Outside of her practice, Momoh has served on the boards of various organizations, including The Saint Paul and Minnesota Foundations, Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers, and the Minnesota Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.

Momoh has been honored both nationally and locally for her community involvement, public service and professional achievements. Most recently, she was named a 2019 Attorney of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer. In 2018, she was honored as a 40 Under 40 award recipient by the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal, and in 2016 was recognized by the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges as a Blackshear Presidential Fellow.
