Scott Filmore to Present at ACTEC Heart of America Regional Meeting

Stinson Leonard Street partner Scott Filmore will present to at The American College of Trust and Estate (ACTEC) Heart of American Regional meeting April 26, 2015 at the Ritz Carlton, St. Louis, Missouri.

Filmore practices in estate planning, trust and estate administration, and trust and estate-related litigation in the firm’s St. Louis office. He was elected an ACTEC Fellow in January 2015. His discussion at the regional meeting is entitled "Decanting at 75 - Expanding Utility and Enduring Problems."

Decanting is the transfer of assets from one irrevocable trust to a new irrevocable trust with different dispositive provisions and without court involvement. Along with the burgeoning availability of decanting comes the potential risks to all parties involved. This presentation will cover the effective use of decanting to modify dispositive and administrative provisions of trusts in a variety of situations and under the various decanting statutes, how decanting can lead to litigation and how it can be used to settle it.
