Working Away From Home

Firm EventsPoints to Ponder When Considering Remote Projects

Join Susan McGreevy, Stinson Leonard Street Partner, when she presents "Working Away from Home" on February 25.

The time when construction and development was so plentiful that projects fell in your lap is long gone, and many firms have chosen to pursue opportunities far away from their home base. This can be a wise and lucrative decision, but it is not without challenges. For example:

  • Do you know the licensing? Do you have someone who qualifies?
  • What are the lien laws? Will you have to file notices before work starts?
  • How will you find contractors, suppliers, designers in new towns and what is their labor market like?
  • You will be responsible for everything that goes on – but how will you know for sure?

There are so many things that can impact a project even when you can see it from your office, and adding the unknowns of working out of town can add a lot to the risk management equation.

Susan will present from our Kansas City office. The seminar will be videoconferenced to our Minneapolis and Denver offices. Stinson Leonard Street attorneys will be on hand in each office to answer questions or direct them to Susan.
