CLE: Ethical Duties and Responsibilities of Lawyers Serving on Nonprofit Boards
Serving on a nonprofit board is a valuable way to give back to the community while building your network. This session will discuss the ethical responsibilities of board members, including the duties of care, loyalty, and obedience. Speakers will review best practices for corporate governance of nonprofit boards, including conflicts of interest, whistleblower, document retention and destruction, compensation, and joint venture policies. The session will conclude with additional ethics considerations based on your role: 1) lawyers serving as nonprofit board members, 2) lawyers serving as counsel for a nonprofit board, and 3) the business and liability risks for lawyers serving in a dual role.
