Domestic Violence Law

In keeping with the focus of this year's ABA National Pro Bono Celebration, we will hear from Annie Struby, an attorney and the Community Safety Assessment Coordinator at Rose Brooks Center, to learn best practices when representing survivors of domestic violence. We will also hear from Stinson LLP Assistant General Counsel Angie Nichols about Rule 1.6 and the steps we should take when we fear that our clients or opposing party or counsel may be in danger, along with Rules 1.2(c) and 3.3 as they relate to limiting the scope of representation and ghostwriting documents on behalf of clients.

Missouri Expungement Law

2:40pm – 3:30pm
Registration: 2:30pm

Survivors of domestic violence with past criminal activity on their record may struggle to gain employment and support their families free from their abusers. For those that qualify, expungement can open doors to economic opportunity. This session will review Missouri expungement law and the process for applying for expungement in Missouri. This information will be presented by UMKC Dean Emeritus Ellen Suni.

Kansas Expungement Law

3:40pm – 4:30pm
Registration: 3:30pm
