Some of the largest companies in the world bring their sophisticated legal problems to Kieran. When it comes to litigation, Kieran aims to plot the most direct route to the client's desired result, always keeping an eye on maximizing efficiency and limiting exposure. In addition to business litigation, Kieran is known for his experience with defending clients in government investigations and proceedings, including those involving the DOJ, SEC and FBI, among others.
Experience
With billions of dollars at stake, he represented hedge fund managers, investment vehicles and offshore funds in a series of cases in the New York courts. The matters involved, among other things, highly complex "CLO-squared" securitizations, the hedging of warehouse balance sheet risk through the use of structured products, and contested CDS loss calculations and exposure.
He has defended and counseled corporate and individual clients in governmental civil and criminal investigations on issues in the nature of antitrust, securities, healthcare and technology.
He has substantial experience in professional sports, having represented several baseball clubs and athletes, including the former top-ranked tennis player in the world.
His real estate litigation experience has involved high-value, CMBS loan foreclosure and guaranty enforcement, as well as EB-5 fraud and financing disputes.
He has handled numerous construction project disputes involving products liability claims related to a tragic accident, construction defects and lien enforcement.
His experience advising regulatory bodies and also appearing in front of them gives him a unique perspective on real estate and land use proposals requiring extensive review.
He has helped to untangle cases involving improperly-issued subprime mortgages, covenants and restrictions, fraudulent conveyances and wetlands regulations.
Committed to human rights, while in law school he served on the Committee on the Administration of Justice in Belfast, Northern Ireland, as a Columbia Human Rights Intern and was named a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
