Scope of Services Appealable issues can arise, and must be preserved, at any time during the life of a matter. For this reason, the members of the Stinson Leonard Street Appellate practice are not only active once a matter reaches the appellate stage, but also able to provide strategic guidance and assistance at earlier stages as well. Our involvement includes the following: Pretrial and Trial Identify potential appellate issues Preserve issues and make a record for appeal Assemble or oppose dispositive and other pretrial motions Pursue or oppose interlocutory appeals and extraordinary writs Assemble or oppose post-judgment motions, such as motions for a new trial After a Final Judgment in the Trial Court Assess the merits and likelihood of success on appeal Obtain or oppose stays of execution and supersedeas bonds Initiate the appeal Expedite the appeal Compile and supplement the record Appellate Briefing Identify the best issues for appeal Draft appellate briefs, complying with all applicable court rules Edit and provide comments on briefs drafted by others Obtain permission to participate as amicus curiae and draft amicus briefs Supplement authorities, if necessary Oral Argument Hold "moot courts" to help attorneys prepare for oral arguments Conduct oral arguments After Receipt of the Appellate Opinion Assemble or oppose requests for reconsideration, transfer, and other discretionary reviews Assemble or oppose requests for award of costs Determine appellate mandates and scope of remand Of Note The attorneys in our Appellate practice possess valuable insight and perspective on the inner workings of appellate courts and the judges who serve on these courts.
