Patty chairs the firm's Health Care Group and serves as outside general counsel to several healthcare providers including health systems, physicians and tribally owned health centers and nursing homes. Her work includes advising providers on the structuring of ventures including counsel on federal and state anti-fraud and self-referral laws. She also regularly advises health care clients on risk management, medical staff, confidentiality and privacy including HIPAA, licensure and regulatory matters and non-profit entity issues. Her experience includes membership on the ethics committee of an academic medical center which has provided valuable insight into medical ethical issues.

  • Advising on medical staff discipline matters from investigation through corrective action.

  • Representation of a medical center in its review and revision of all physician contracts.

  • Representation of tribal health care entity in a dispute with Indian Health Service over IHS disbursement of P.L. §93-638 monies.

  • Negotiation of affiliation of individual rural facility with multi-hospital system.

  • Negotiation of public financing for construction of new and renovated hospital facilities.

  • Counsel on creation of multi-county health department

  • Representation of health entities in governmental fraud investigations.

Listed in The Best Lawyers in America for health care law, Patty has experience with operational issues (including medical staff, HIPAA and risk management), regulatory compliance and enforcement, having provided legal representation for many types of health care providers. She is a frequent lecturer on medical-legal and governance topics at medical professional meetings, university classes and educational programs. Patty is listed in the 2009 edition of Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business for health care.

  • She is a past member of the Nebraska Bar Association Disciplinary Review Committee and has chaired a selection panel which screened and nominated candidates for the United States Magistrate for the District of Nebraska.
