John C. Aisenbrey

A former federal prosecutor, John concentrates his practice on complex commercial litigation and white-collar criminal matters. He has represented corporations, accounting firms and individuals, in a variety of commercial disputes including commercial fraud and contract disputes, malpractices and regulatory investigations. He has managed internal investigations for corporations concerning potential criminal conduct, including bribery, fraud, embezzlement, submission of false claims to the government and environmental law issues. He also has extensive experience representing financial institutions, health care providers and individuals in all phases of federal criminal investigation and prosecution, including subpoena compliance, grand jury proceedings, parallel proceedings, defense at trial and on appeal.

John has substantial jury trial experience, having taken more than 60 jury cases to verdict as lead trial counsel in federal and state courts around the country.

Representative Experience

In recent years, John has represented:

• a major Kansas City corporation in a variety of commercial cases, including trade secret misappropriation, fraud, and commercial disputes, both in jury trial and commercial arbitrations
• national and regional accounting firms in financial fraud and malpractice trials as well as internal investigations
• corporate officers in SEC investigations
• hospitals, executives and physicians in federal healthcare fraud investigations and prosecutions
• corporations and individuals in federal environmental criminal investigations
• a reinsurer in a contract dispute with an insurance company  

Education

Of Note

He was an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia before coming to the firm. John was selected to be on the faculty of the 2007 IADC Trial Academy held at Stanford Law School, and he also has been an adjunct professor of law at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law where he taught criminal law. John has served as an arbitrator for the NASD. He was a lieutenant in the Navy, serving on active duty for five years between college and law school.
