Kansas county appraisers are sending written notices of classification and valuation for property tax purposes to Kansas real estate property owners.
The wrong classification or valuation can cause owners to pay more property taxes than they should. If you believe either the classification or the valuation stated in your notice is incorrect, you should consider appealing. To appeal, you must give notice to the county appraiser within 30 days from the date the notice was mailed. For example, Johnson County mailed notices on March 1, 2010, with the deadline of March 30, 2010, for filing an appeal in Johnson County. This is one step in an appeals process that gives you an opportunity for real estate property tax relief.
The Property Tax Issues and Valuation Appeals Group at Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP assists clients with all aspects of property tax issues, including assisting those property owners interested in appealing their property classifications or tax valuations. The group can also assist with requests for property tax exemptions and handle contested tax appeals before state tax appeal agencies. The group practices in several Midwestern states.
