Stinson Morrison Hecker Partner Lana Knedlik was named to the inaugural class of the 40 Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40 by the National LGBT Bar Association, an affiliate of the American Bar Association.
The award recognizes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender legal professionals under the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves in their field and demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBT equality. In 2007, Knedlik co-founded the Kansas City LEsbian Gay and Allied Lawyers (KC LEGAL) and currently serves as president of the non-profit organization. She also serves as co-chair of the ACLU's LGBT Task Force, and is an author of the ACLU's handbook The Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered People in Missouri and Kansas.
Since 2004, Knedlik has worked with the Kansas Bar Association to provide annual continuing legal education seminars on LGBT issues to attorneys throughout Kansas and Missouri. She also is a regular guest on a monthly radio program, answering questions related to LGBT legal issues. Her other activities include serving on the board of the LGBT Four Freedoms Democratic Club and as a former board member of the Lesbian and Gay Community Center of Greater Kansas City. She also is a member of the firm's Diversity Committee.
Knedlik is a registered patent attorney and focuses on life sciences and chemical patent prosecution. Her educational background includes degrees in chemical engineering, biology and pharmaceutical sciences.
