Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP announces Allison Murdock as its new deputy managing partner. Murdock assumes the role from Mark Hinderks who transitioned from the position to managing partner. The leadership changes became effective July 1, 2010.
Murdock, who joined the firm more than 20 years ago, has served in various leadership positions during her tenure. Before becoming deputy managing partner, she chaired one of the firm’s business litigation divisions, and previously chaired the firm's associate evaluation and associate development committees. She serves on the firm's governing policy committee.
According to a 2009 survey conducted by The National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL) and the NAWL Foundation, women play a small role in the highest levels of law firm leadership. Only about 6 percent of law firms have female managing partners. The average firm’s highest governing committee counts women as only 15 percent of its members and about 14 percent of the nation’s largest law firms have no women on their governing committees.
“Allison is an outstanding attorney and a natural leader,” Hinderks said. “She brings the credibility and experience of a very successful practice, and has excellent judgment, communication skills and personality that will serve her well in this new role. I value her perspective immensely and enjoy working with her."
Her practice has involved numerous litigation matters in both federal and state courts in Missouri, Kansas and other states. In addition to the prosecution and defense of commercial disputes, she regularly handles trusts and estates litigation, including maintaining and defending trust termination and reformation actions, adversary probate proceedings and defending corporate fiduciaries. She also has experience in prosecuting and defending CERCLA cost-recovery actions.
"Taking this new step in my career is very rewarding," Murdock said. "I strongly believe in the future of the firm, and I am excited about the opportunities we have to provide excellent client service while we expand our depth, expertise and reach."
She received her J.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1988 and her bachelor’s degree in 1983.
