Stinson Wins MARC's 2009 Green Commute Challenge for Medium Organizations

Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP is proud to be a winner in the Mid-America Regional Council's 2009 Green Commute Challenge. The firm, which received the highest total points for medium organizations, had 45 participants from its Kansas City and Corporate Woods' offices logging their daily commute during an eight-week period.

MARC's Green Commute Challenge encouraged commuters to use alternative forms of transportation to get to and from work, and to find other ways to reduce miles driven. From July 6 to Aug. 28, the 41 teams and 1,420 participants accomplished the following:

Saved 753,040 miles of driving
Saved $407,395 in driving costs
Prevented 696,510 pounds of ozone-forming and greenhouse gas emissions

"I am quite proud of the firm's attorneys and staff who participated in this challenge and appreciate their efforts to contribute to a healthier environment," said Mark S. Foster, firm managing partner.

As part of the firm's green initiative, which began in 2007 and is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the environment, the firm subsidizes its' attorney and staff public-transportation use, provides an internal rideshare forum and features weekly "green" tips on its intranet.

"The commute challenge was well-supported by the firm, and we appreciate the participant's dedication," said Theresa O'Leary, director of facilities and chair of the firm's green committee. "We are always examining ways to promote sustainable business practices throughout the firm's eight offices and the commute challenge was an excellent fit with the firm's green efforts."
