Overview
As an intellectual property attorney focused on open source licensing and technology industry M&A, Laurie helps clients identify and solve software-related legal risks to protect IP investment and move business forward.
Laurie combines intellectual property experience, tech industry know-how, and a keen business sense to help companies identify and manage risks in technology transactions and maximize their return on IP investments. She counsels clients on technical due diligence, security and regulatory issues (GDPR/data privacy, accessibility), deal structure, and purchase agreement language. Laurie also advises technology industry clients on open source legal issues including open source policies, license compliance obligations, source availability and license notices for major product releases.
Experience
Laurie advised a prominent, multinational software company on numerous divestitures and acquisitions including the sale of an online ad platform, the transfer of an IPTV operations business, the purchase of multiple gaming and AI-related companies, and the acquisition of a major social media company.
She helped a leading venture capital firm conduct technical due diligence and remediation work on software companies targeted for strategic investment.
Laurie also provides pro bono legal services to benefit emerging artists, asylum seekers, and the economically disadvantaged through Minnesota Lawyers for the Arts, the Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights, and the firm’s Deinard Legal Clinic, respectively.
