Jason P. Romero

Jason is an associate based in the firm’s Kansas City office.  He provides a wide range of real estate, construction, and corporate transactional services for local, national, and international clients.

Representative Experience

Real Estate/Corporate:

• Structures and facilitates acquisitions, dispositions, developments, securitizations, financing, and leasing transactions for real estate investment trusts (REITs), real estate operating companies (REOCs), private equity firms, developers, financial institutions, investors, and other publicly- and privately-held business clients.
• Frequently handles real estate aspects of corporate mergers and acquisitions in a variety of industries.
• Structures tax and economic development incentives for urban infill and redevelopment projects; and assists clients with land use planning and zoning matters.
• Jason has provided a full range of real estate and construction legal services for various types of projects located throughout North America, including office buildings, retail shopping centers, industrial plants and parks, intermodal facilities, ports and coastal infrastructure, pipeline assets, ski resorts, theaters, charter schools, wineries and vineyards, multifamily housing, military housing, casinos, hotels, sports venues, data centers, technology infrastructure, wind energy developments, golf courses, residential subdivisions and master planned communities.

Construction

• Drafts and negotiates construction contract documents for all types of project delivery systems.
• Provides on-site and off-site project control services, including: preparation and review of contracts, purchase orders, and lien waivers; change order and cost monitoring; and oversight of scheduling, code compliance, licensing, bidding, permitting issues, and project financing.
• Enforces and defends mechanic’s lien claims and surety bond claims.

Jason frequently analyzes issues involving water rights, oil and gas, environmental laws, railroad facilities, gaming laws, taxes, insurance, and bankruptcy as they affect real estate transactions and litigation, as well as corporate mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to joining Stinson, Jason practiced commercial litigation, with an emphasis in construction and real estate law, at Husch Blackwell Sanders LLP.  Before practicing law, Jason gained industry experience as a claims consultant at CCL Construction Consultants, Inc. and as a residential contractor in northeastern Kansas.

Jason routinely draws on his industry experience and educational background to gain insight into our clients' business objectives and provide value-added services.
