Dave chairs the Real Estate Practice Division of the firm. He represents developers, property owners, tenants and municipalities in real estate development projects, particularly projects that include the use of development incentives such as tax increment financing and tax abatement. Dave has served as counsel to both developers and municipalities in the formation of public/private partnerships and other real estate-based economic development efforts. He also represents the Kansas City Royals Baseball Club in connection with its stadium leases and real estate activities. Dave is very involved in the representation of not-for-profit entities in real estate development activities, including Union Station Kansas City, Inc., Kansas City Hospice, Inc. and the Kansas City Art Institute.
Dave has been involved in projects for job retention/expansion and relocation activities in both Missouri and Kansas, including Applebee's International, CenturyLink, Cerner, Data Systems International, New Directions Behavioral Health and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
Dave has significant experience in the area of gaming licensing in the state of Missouri, having represented two successful applicants for riverboat casino gaming licenses.
Dave has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, where he taught courses in real estate finance and development law. He has also served as the Chairman of the Real Estate Law Committee of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, and he has spoken frequently at seminars concerning real estate law topics.
