Ben, chairman of the Tax Practice Group, has been a partner with the firm since 1986. He joined the firm as an associate in 1981. He has extensive experience in federal and state taxation issues, corporate acquisitions, closely-held business and general corporate planning and accounting issues in both business and litigation contexts. His experience in the taxation area includes federal and state income taxation (corporate, partnership and individual), tax-deferred reorganizations, tax litigation, estate and gift taxation, multi-state apportionment issues, and sales and use taxation. He also has advised clients with respect to structural aspects and ongoing operational issues associated with real estate investment trusts (REITs) and real estate mortgage investment conduits (REMICs).Ben has served as an adjunct professor on Tax Procedure (1988) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and served as a teaching assistant at the University of Iowa for undergraduates in Financial and Cost Accounting (1979-1981).
