Barbara Portwood focuses her practice on the financing of affordable housing. In her more than 30-year career, she has acted as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel or borrower’s counsel for hundreds of governmental and conduit tax-exempt debt transactions. She has structured transactions with various types of credit, including the full faith and credit of governmental issuers, revenues of financed projects, letters of credit, tax increment, lease revenues and common bond funds. Barbara also represents lenders making construction and long-term loans to finance affordable housing, including projects using low-income housing tax credit and other federal subsidies. Barbara has also represented various suballocators of low-income housing tax credits.
